First country achieves FiTI Standard compliant status

Seychelles is the first country to achieve ‘Compliant’ status under the FiTI Standard.

The FiTI Fisheries Transparency Initiative International Board has granted the Seychelles an overall status of compliant in implementing the FiTI Standard as a result of Seychelles’ second validation. This means the country has made considerable progress in fisheries management transparency to increase accessibility of fisheries data and ensure for responsible and a participatory fisheries sector.

SwAM employee Joacim Johannesson is a member of the FiTI International Board and participated in the Board Committee assessing the validation results.

“I wish to congratulate the Seychelles on its achievement,” Joacim Johannesson says. “Transparency and participation make fair and good use of the ocean possible.”
