Mölndalåns Water Council was founded in December 2008 upon the initiative of five municipalities through which the stream of Mölndal runs.
The water council serves as a coordinating body to create an understanding and a holistic approach to water resources in the river basin. It works to ensure that the water in the river basin achieves and maintains good ecological and chemical statuses.
Ätran Water Council unifies the seven municipalities through which Ätran River runs.
The council serves as an important link within the water district where interaction between government agencies, local authorities, NGOs, and the public is central to the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive.
